Student Behavior and
Discipline
Our class
guidelines are simple and easy to follow:
We raise our hands to speak.
We work quietly at our seats.
We use voices soft and sweet.
We keep our places tidy and neat.
We are helpful, friendly, and fair.
We take turns and willingly share.
These
guidelines will be explained, rehearsed, and reinforced throughout the
year. To encourage students to follow the classroom guidelines, I will
reinforce appropriate behavior with stickers, stamps, verbal praise,
positive notes, special privileges, and a treasure chest. Each
child will begin the day with 3 colored bears - green, yellow, and
red.
The bears work like a traffic light:
green
means 'Good to Go", you are making good choices;
yellow
means 'slow down', think about
your choices;
red means
"STOP", you have made too many bad choices.
At the end of the day, any child that still has a green
bear will have the opportunity
to choose a prize from the treasure box. However, if a child breaks one of
the guidelines, he/she must remove a bear from the bear chart. Each
bear represents a consequence:
|
|
1st bear =
lose 5 minutes of playtime or center time
2nd bear = lose 10 minutes of playtime or center time
3rd bear = lose ALL of playtime & a note home
when all
bears are lost, there are additional consequences as follows:
4th offense = lose snack
5th offense = phone call to parents / guardians
6th offense = referral to office.
Some behaviors (kicking, biting, hitting, or physical harming another
student) require immediate consequences. If these behaviors occur
the following consequences will be enforced:
1st time =
immediate 5 minute calm down time & take a bear
2nd time = immediate 10 minute calm down time, take a bear & parents
notified
3rd time = removal from the classroom (sent to principal's office).
We will
discuss and practice the classroom guidelines and discipline plan in the
classroom. I would appreciate it if you would review (or question your
child) about our classroom behavior expectations.
Thank you,
Mrs. Morrison
