Classroom Rules and Discipline Procedures

Our class guidelines are simple and easy to follow:

We raise our hands to speak.
We work quietly at our seats.
We use voices soft and sweet.
We keep our places tidy and neat.
We are helpful, friendly, and fair.
We take turns and willingly share.

These guidelines will be explained, rehearsed, and reinforced throughout the year. To encourage students to follow the classroom guidelines, I will reinforce appropriate behavior with tokens, stickers, stamps, verbal praise, positive notes, special privileges, and a treasure chest.

Each child will begin the day with 5 colored monkeys. Each color has a meaning:

GREEN:  I am having a good day. I am making great choices. At the end of the day I will get a token and treasure.
PINK: oops, I have received a warning. I need to think about my choices. At the end of the day I will get a treasure.
YELLOW: I have made another bad choice and I have lost 5 minutes of playtime or snack time. I will try harder tomorrow.
RED: I am not making good choices. I have lost 10 minutes of playtime or snack time. I MUST try harder tomorrow.
BLUE: I did not have a good day. My choices caused me to lose playtime and snack time and a note will be sent home.

You will be informed daily of your child's "color". Please review the notes on the back of the folder and initial the appropriate day.

Some behaviors (kicking, hitting, biting, or physically harming another student) require immediate consequences. If these behaviors occur the following classroom consequences will be enforced (in addition to any school wide / individual discipline policies):

1st offense: immediate 5 minute calm down time / removal from activity
2nd offense: immediate 10 minute calm down time / removal from activity / parent's notified
3rd offense: removal from classroom (referral to office)

Having this plan in place will help us maintain a positive and safe learning environment that will be instrumental in your child's success in kindergarten.

Thank you,

Ms. Morrison
